Wrapping up the Season

Last Friday, our Varsity Football team wrapped up their season with a loss in the District Semi-Finals against a good North Platte team. The Tigers got to the second district game after a very close and exciting win against the Lincoln Cardinals. This was the first district game the Tigers have won since 2019. Over the season, the Tigers grew and learned a lot as they gained more experience. This might very well have been the last 11-man football season at WN and I am glad it ended with a district game win. We were a very young team with many Juniors and Sophomores and will be ready to go next year. I was able to sit down with Coach Hampton and ask a few questions about the seniors and the season.
First, I asked him about this year's seniors and what they meant to him and the team. “The seniors this year were great leaders for us and for our program. They are a special group to me as they are the first four players that I have had as Head Coach. They have left behind a great legacy for our returning players to carry on and I appreciate all they have done for us and for me.” Next, I went into our season and how it went. “It was a tough season for us in the win-loss column, but there are bigger things than wins and losses. Our team never quit and gave all they had each and every night. I thought we really grew throughout the season and I had a lot of fun with them on a daily basis. I am very proud of them!”
Personally, I had a great connection with this year's seniors in and out of football, and just like me, everyone who has ever played with them will miss them on the field.
