Senior, Raelee Rukavina, faces injury at Wellington-Napoleon’s first volleyball game of the season.

This week our Wellington-Napoleon volleyball team had their very first game against the Lexington Minutemen. The Lady Tigers were putting up a tough fight when tragedy struck. Our outside hitter, Raelee Rukavina, was down. As Raelee and her opponent both jumped for a ball right at the net she was rudely met with a Minutemen foot crushing her very own. Witnesses from the bleacher creatures said Raelee’s face said it all.

Raelee was escorted off the court and met with our athletic director, Mr. Hughes. She hobbled out of the building on crutches to figure out just how severe this injury was. Teammate Mia Hodson, said, “She is one of our best players and I was worried she would be out for the rest of her senior season.” Everyone on the court's faces dropped when the possibility of losing a senior player crossed their minds.

I got the opportunity to interview Raelee the day after the incident. Luckily nothing is broken but her ankle is sprained with minor ligament strains. When asked about the severity of the injury Raelee stated, “The doctor said to wait two weeks, but I plan on bouncing back even faster.” Raelee is determined to get back on the court as soon as she possibly can. The Lady Tigers will face the Minutemen once again later in the season, Raelee’s only wish is that their players will “Keep their big fat feet on their side of the court.” The Prowl staff all wish Raelee a speedy recovery.
