On November 1st, a group of FFA members got the chance to travel to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 96th National FFA Convention. The group of students that were able to go got the chance to experience new things and make new friends. “This trip impacts students because of the magnitude of agriculture and how it affects all different areas of how we live, as well as the skills that the students learned while being there,” said Mr. Garland. The students traveled to Indianapolis with two other schools, Santa Fe and Concordia. All of Wednesday was dedicated to traveling on the road. On Thursday, students got to experience the Opening Ceremony held in the Lucas Oil Stadium and the Career Show. The Career Show has hundreds of booths around the building giving away free items to students interested in what their booth offers. These booths include brands such as Wrangler and Ariat to colleges from all around the U.S. giving away free pens, lanyards, and even t-shirts. The next day, these students got to tour Not Just Popcorn in Edinburgh, IN. The owners of the store showed how the popcorn was made and where they made it. This place offered multiple different unique and popular popcorn flavors for everybody. After the tour, students got the chance to get National FFA points for the National Day of Service. Students at the National Day of Service got the chance to help with wrapping Christmas lights, cutting down trees, picking up trash, and pulling branches. This helped students get points for their state and national degree in the future. On the last day, students traveled back to the Lucas Oil Stadium to watch 5 past FFA members get their National FFA Degree. These past members were Phillip Hilker, Annie Milligan, Payten Rose, Lane Rogge, and Trenton Wahn. These 5 members worked very hard to achieve this degree and get the requirements needed. After this, students headed back home from Indiana. Overall the trip was a great experience and opportunity for the selected FFA members that were able to attend.
