Mr. McConkey, the middle school social studies teacher, started his first year at Wellington-Napoleon this year. McConkey has been in the profession for four years, teaching 8th grade and all high school social study classes. He really enjoys the Wellington-Napoleon School District, saying that everyone has been welcoming and very helpful. “It is nice staying with a smaller school where the community has pride and supports the school.” The biggest difference he has had between Wellington and his old school, was it was actually smaller if you can believe it. At his old school he taught only 12-19 students in each class. He taught a more variety of classes than the three different classes he teaches now.
As some of you might know, this year McConkey will be coaching middle school boys basketball, and is an assistant coach for the football and track teams. In his past years he has coached junior high girls basketball and has been the high school assistant football and boys basketball coach. Mr. McConkey is originally from the northwest corner of Missouri, and actually worked at a factory for a year after college. In his free time he enjoys hunting, fishing, watching sports, and hanging out with family. Overall, Mr. McConkey has gotten very involved with teaching sports and being part of the Wellington-Napoleon community, and we are happy to have him.
