Mrs. Jarman has been our Art teacher for 5 years, and her influence on the art program has been a very positive one. “She always makes class fun and she knows what she’s doing,” says Art IV student Lexi Dean. The class, simply High School Art, is not the same every year a student takes it. When you advance, every year you earn a new number for how many years you have been in the program. Lexi Dean and Cole Williamson are the only Art IVs here at Wellington, partly due to the limited HS Art hours. There is only one available Art class for high school, but this is something Jarman hopes to remedy. “I hope to increase the number of high school art classes as there is only one offered.  I also want to grow the art club, however, it is hard to get participants because of other activities and sports.”

What is Art Club, and why should you join? Jarman explains. “Art club has been whatever students need it to be.  We have completed murals and other commissioned projects, but students participate in a way that works for them as individuals.  All art club members are also eligible to participate in art competitions and activities throughout the year. Since we currently offer only one high school art class, I strongly encourage students to come to the art club and take advantage of the art room and supplies.  Many students work on individual projects throughout the year.  Art club is also for those who want to be in an artistic environment, but are maybe not comfortable creating their art yet.  All are welcome to give it a try.  It is a fun and flexible group.  We currently meet on Mondays and Wednesdays after school until 4:15 pm.”

On May 2, 2024, made possible by Charli’s Limelight of Hope, a mini portfolio art show will be held. “Students k-12 will be displaying their portfolios for the community to come and view.  The portfolios will highlight all the work the students have completed this year.” More information will be released later in the school year, but keep an eye out.

These activities are a testament to Mrs. Jarman’s work ethic and creative ideas. Positive changes also include growth in overall support and interest in art in the community. Another important note is Charli’s LImelight of Hope. Charli Alex Lewis was heavily invested in the art program, and as such, the foundation in Lewis’ honor is as well. “We have been the beneficiary of Charlie's Limelight of Hope and have greatly increased the number of supplies we can offer,” says Jarman.

All in all, we appreciate Mrs. Jarman and all she does for K-12. Keep an eye out for the Art Show, sign up for art club, and art class, and get involved with Charli’s Limelight of Hope.
