We welcome the new middle basketball coaches as they bring fresh energy to the Wellington-Napoleon Dynasty.

Some new faces have been spotted on the middle school basketball coaching staff this year. A few familiar faces even played on the same court once. It looks as if the new strategy of these young coaches is working as both the boys and girls have had a very successful season so far. When asked how the season is going, Coach Sammy responded, “ It’s going really well, we are undefeated and have won two tournaments, we don’t have a lot of girls, but we have a lot of skill.” When asking the boys' coach, Coach McConkey, about their season he also talked about how they’ve had a successful season and are improving every game.

Being a new young coach can come with some advantages and disadvantages. Coach Schaberg thinks that being a young coach is more of an advantage. “I’m able to connect with the players more and understand what the game has come to nowadays,” stated Schaberg. Coach Sammy can see how being a brand new addition to the basketball coaching staff can have its cons since she has never coached before, but there are also some pros. “ An advantage of being a new coach is having fresh eyes since I previously played on the Wellington High School basketball team, I now know how to prepare the girls for high school ball.”

Both teams have been dominating this season but the coaches still have goals to finish their seasons strong. Coach McConkey's main goal for the season is to continue to see improvement throughout the season. “ The goal is to see improvement in every game and hopefully not hit a high point and just drop off,” stated McConkey. Coach Schaberg has similar goals for the boys' B team as well. When asked what the main goal of the season was for them he responded, “ Seeing the kids achieve something that they couldn’t do at the beginning of the year.” Sammy has goals not only for the team but also for herself as a coach. “ I would like to become more confident in my coaching ability. A big goal for the team is to remain undefeated and become better throughout the season,” said Coach Sammy.

The W-N community is excited about these new coaches and has faith in their future success.
