Football season has come to an end, but now everyone is excited to kick off basketball season. This year was the first time in 5 years that the football team has made it to the second round of districts. They laid it all out on the field and gave it their all. We had two senior cheerleaders and three senior football players who were sad to have played and cheered their final time. I interviewed Mia Hodson on how she is feeling about it being the last game with the seniors. She said, “I’m sad about it being the last time watching the senior football players. I also am going to miss cheering with Maddie and Cadance.” She then said that her favorite memory with the seniors was singing Pitch Perfect, singing Sitzo, and doing makeup on the bus with them. On the bright side, the cheerleaders are super excited to start their basketball season while they are coached by Mrs. Travis. Talking to her, I found out that she is super excited and eager to start the season. Starting off the season she said, “The first two weeks have been good. The cheerleaders already came in from football cheer knowing most of the cheers. This means we have had the time to start learning new cheers to incorporate into the mix.” From the football season, she has some takeaways. She is going to bring clear instruction, leadership, and guidelines to have a unified cheer squad. The numbers are small for cheerleaders, but she has made it her goal to have all of them excited and into it. Aleah Kolkmeyer, a freshman, loves to cheer. She is excited to get the student section engaged in the game. Lastly, Aleah talked about her preference for basketball or football cheer, “I enjoy football cheer more but am still super excited to cheer on the boys!”
