Last Wednesday, the WN Band took a trip to Boonville, testing their musical abilities. The band had been practicing two pieces to take and perform, Southampton March and Sandcastle Sketches. The band is also playing these pieces at the Spring Concert. The band had also been practicing sight reading, Sight reading is when the band gets a whole new piece of music that they have never seen before. The band then gets six minutes to look over the piece without making any sound with their instrument. After those six minutes are up, the band only has one chance to play the song.
The drive from Wellington to Boonville is roughly a one hour drive. There is not much to do on a bus for one hour. Many students took naps, while others listened to music, played games on their phone, or just scrolled through TikTok. When the band finally arrived at Boonville, they had to gather their instruments and sign in. The band then walked over to Boonville’s Middle School. Before performing their actual performance, the band was able to practice for twenty minutes. After the twenty minutes were up, the band walked over to the stage and waited their turn to perform. After the band was done playing all of their pieces and finishing their sight reading, the band headed off-stage awaiting their results. Band Director Rachel Mrosko came back to the band with a big smile on her face. She announced that the band had earned a one for an exemplary performance. This is the first time that the WN Band has received a one in twenty years!
