This past Tuesday, April 2nd, our FFA chapter participated in the Missouri Central District Competitions. They all have been working really hard to prepare, taking time to study their competitions. They even went to a practice test in Trenton on the 21st. We had a lot of good scores, but our Farm Management team was able to punch a ticket to state. These members include Levi Wallace, Haden Terrill, Isabelle Miller, and Maddie Sims. They scored 10th as a team with a score of 350. Individually, Isabelle Miller placed 24th with a score of 134, Maddie Sims placed 33rd with a score of 115, Levi Wallace placed 39th with a score of 101, and Haden Terrill placed 47th with a score of 91.
I was able to interview chapter adviser, Mr. Garland, on how he felt the teams performed. First, I asked him how the chapter did as a whole where he responded with, “They did a really good job yesterday, I think everyone had a good learning experience. It gives people the opportunity to do and see things they might have never experienced before.” I followed up by asking when the last time a team was able to go to state. He said, “two years ago in 2022 we had a horse team make it. It included Payton Rose, Annie Milligan, Logan Neer, and Layla Fisher. Payton Rose was able to get a group 1 rating and the team got a group 2 rating as a whole.” Overall they placed 4th and is the highest he’s ever had.
I also interviewed the highest scoring member of the Farm Management team, Isabelle Miller. “I’m very excited because I feel like this is a great accomplishment for us as a team,” she said when being asked how she felt about making it to state. I then asked if she expected to make it this far where she responded with, “No I didn’t, I’ve never really done anything like this with farm management so I just used what I studied the last couple weeks.”
