A second concussion hits a Wellington football player.
There have only been two football games this year, and in both games, someone has gotten a concussion, Maddox Blystone and Desmond Holder. Desmond Holder got a concussion in the first football game against Slater. Maddox Blystone got his in the past football game against Hardin-Central.
Maddox took a bad fall onto his head and didn’t think of anything because of all of the adrenaline going through his body that it didn't hurt. When he went back into the game his head started to hurt really bad and it got progressively worse as the game went on. He had a feeling he had a concussion due to the symptoms he was having, “Headaches, lights bother my eyes, and when it happened I couldn’t hear anything, it went silent.” stated Maddox. He is out for only up to a week or 24 hours after his symptoms are gone. Don’t worry he will be back and better than ever very soon.
Desmond might have gotten the worst out of the two of them. During the game Desmond took a blow to the head which led to his injury. During the game his head hurt really bad but didn’t think anything of it because he usually gets headaches during games, and he was “just trying to thug it out.” Desmond experienced lots of symptoms after the game, such as throwing up, eyes sensitive to light, and bad headaches, but Desmond thought he was just sick. He has no clue when he is going to return; it is undetermined.
According to a recent study by the National Federation of State High School Associations, high school football players suffer an average of 11.2 concussions per 10,000 athletic exposures. Hopefully they are the first and the last two of the season.
