Last Sunday the results came out for this year's New Year Bowl Games in college football, and our Missouri Tigers are playing in the Cotton Bowl. Our opponents are the number 7 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Mizzou is coming in as the underdog being ranked 9th, but still has a very good chance of winning. This is the 3rd Cotton Bowl game we have been in, and the first since 2014 with a 41-31 win over Oklahoma State.

This year, Mizzou has been on fire with an overall record of 10-2 with their only losses coming to the number 2 ranked Georgia Bulldogs and 23 ranked LSU, both being a 10 or under point differential. This is also the first time we have won 10 games since 2014.

Coming into the year, Mizzou was not expected to do well with their last year's record being 6-7 and losing their best wide receiver. Stepping up to the challenge was senior Running Back Cody Schrader. This is Schrader’s first year at Mizzou after coming from Truman State, a Division 2 school in Missouri. At the end of the year, Schrader finished 1st in the SEC for rushing yards, and attempts, and 2nd in rushing Touchdowns. He is also a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to the best Running Back in College football.

Also stepping up were Quarterback Brady Cook and Wide Receiver Luther Burden III. Brady Cook came in 3rd for passing yards, 5th in completions, and 4th in passing touchdowns. Luther Burden came 3rd in receiving yards, 2nd in receptions, and 3rd in receiving touchdowns.

One of the most important players to Mizzou this year was Senior Harrison Mevis. He made many clutch kicks to win games and got the nickname Thicker Kicker. The nickname came from his abnormal size at 6 foot 243 LBS. Along with his clutch kicks he also made a record-breaking 61-yard Field goal to secure the win against at the time number 15 ranked Kansas State.

The Cotton Bowl will take place on December 29, 2023, at 8 PM in Arlington, Texas, and will be Mizzou’s last game of their amazing season.
