The Varsity girls basketball team finished fourth in the I-70 conference tournament. The girls played St. Paul Monday night to kick the tournament off. The girls beat St. Paul in a close game 45-46. The game ended with Melanie Thornburg making the game-winning one. ¨ I had a lot of emotions going into that game, and I felt I played with them well. I felt like I was playing for my dad, and I was just very happy with the outcome,¨ said Melanie. The Lady Tigers had a tough game against Lone Jack on Wednesday night. Sadly they lost in a hard-fought game 18-46. This hard work got the Lady Tigers into the 3rd place game. They were facing off against the Lady Orioles.
¨ Going into the game I felt very confident knowing we would handle the ball very well on offense. On defense I knew we would do well because that is one of our strengths this year,¨ said Charlsie Lamphier, one of the starters for the Tigers. The game was very physical. It was back and forth the whole game. ¨It was a very competitive game,¨ said Kaylin Ellensohn another one of the starters for the Lady Tigers. There was a lot of pressure on this game, both teams wanted to come out on top. ¨ I thought we executed well on offense and defense. I thought we showed great mental and physical toughness, and I thought that we moved the ball on offense to get the best shots that we could ”said Coach Andy Hampton. The final score of the game Saturday was 39-43.
The girls are off to a great start this season and have many more games to go. Come out tonight to support them against Penny.
